☺️ sweet, a little pensive and evocative of experience most of us have had. There's been more times than one when I've wanted to fly away. Thanks for sharing this song from my younger days.
What a treasure that woman is. I’m a hard rock guy but I get tears in my eyes listening to her. Old and soft, I’m going to go flail myself and regain my masculinity.
That was fun--I was pleasantly surprised that I remembered all the lyrics once it got going. I haven't heard this song in many moons and the lyrics got me thinking. It's the story of someone who thought she had found her forever love but he was untrue; nevertheless she entertains the idea of staying with him.
"When I was young, my heart was young then too." Made me think of the times in my youth when I sometimes tolerated this kind of nonsense. There's a peace in realizing that I'm not that naive anymore.
It’s a great pity Stevie Nicks ruined her vocal cords. Hearing a mature take on “Landslide” or “Silver Springs” through pipes not blasted by cocaine would probably be magical.
Drug use. The damage from putting cocaine in your nose doesn’t stop there. In addition to the direct physical damage from having the stuff drip down your throat, there’s the issue of overusing your larynx after you’ve bathed it in a very effective topical anesthetic.
She's not quite a contralto, but one of my favorite singers is Trisha Yearwood; her voice affects me in a similar way. If you've never heard it, you should listen to her sing "On a Bus to Saint Cloud, Minnesota." God is that song poignant!
When my mother died suddenly at only age fifty-nine, the world looked different. And sometimes I would catch a glimpse of a middle aged blonde woman from a distance and think it was her; once, I even followed a woman around in Kohl’s for a minute because she looked like my mom and was wearing her perfume. I knew it was futile, but the longing was so great that my legs had a mind of their own....
And that’s why I can’t get through this song without tears.
Thank you for this! Haven’t heard this song in...seems too long. Spontaneously teared up, and I’m not one to tear up. Karen Carpenter has the same effect on me. Also KD Lang, not sure if she’s a contralto as well.
I was born in Saginaw, Michigan, birthplace of Stevie Wonder and Lefty Frizzell, prize fighter turned country singer. All this to say I appreciate all the great Canadian musicians, especially Anne Murray, Gordon Lightfoot and the Bare Naked Ladies. But where I am right now at this moment in time is wondering "What's So Funny About Peace, Love and Understanding?"
I hope you've had the chance to see Anne Murray live, Josh.
Also, Shakira is a contralto. If you don't speak Spanish and want a direct translation into many of the songs typical of the language, listen to "Whenever, Whenever."
Thank you for that musical interlude. It was beautiful.

Fine, very fine. Anne Murray is a remarkable treasure.
I'm no expert but your point about the female contralto is well taken. This has a strange almost magical effect even on the trans question.
What is a man ? What is a woman?
Let me here you speak, but better than that let me here you SING. !

It's impossible not to.

What happened? How did she ruin them?

What a phenomenal song.

Nice one! I'm wanting to work soon on Dylan and his myriad voices ...
Bob Dylan? The man who literally cannot hit pitch? When I mentioned Anne murray, Bob Dylan actually comes into your mind?
Except for Lay Lady Lay when legend has it he quit smoking for a few months before recording it.
Three greatest vocal stylists ... Sinatra, Elvis and Dylan .. . You find their influences everywhere ....
Nope ... Just sharing on extraordinary singing ... No connection in styles or buttons pushed ...
I don’t think about Dylan when I think of good singing voices. But I do think about his former band mates: Richard Manuel, Rick Danko and Levon Helm.
Here is a list of famous contraltos.

Superhuman voice. Another of the world's best f contraltos: Nina Simone https://youtu.be/eYSbUOoq4Vg?si=X-xDzY8C7xo7mZEm (Josh, you'll appreciate the feline claymation…)

Just a beautiful voice. Karen’s is my favorite.
Like warm, molten caramel in the ears. "We've Only Just Begun" may be the clinically proven antidote to black-pilled thinking.
And that unexpected harmonic key shift that comes just before "sharing horizons that are new to us" sends the hair on the back of my neck up.
Yes. Karen Carpenter is the greatest female vocalist of the recorded music era. Anne Murray is a close second for me.

That was a good song Josh Slocum
Anne Murray is a fantastic singer and great person. She’s got it all.
