Full-length posting around here has been light lately, I know. Here’s why. I’ve resigned from my 20-year job as Executive Director of Funeral Consumers Alliance. FCA is a nonprofit organization that helps grieving families avoid being overcharged, helps them plan funerals that are affordable, and that speaks for the interests of consumers before national regulators.
Damn. FCA sounds like a much-needed organization and a rewarding occupation (or at least had been) for you. I am saddened that you are being driven away and disgusted that FCA is allowing this to happen. I do admire you for standing your ground.
I just changed my subscription plan from $70.00 per year to $210.00 per year. I hope it will help a little. You and Kevin are doing good work and I want to see it continue.
It’s strange that the “helping” professions seem to be the opposite right now. And all the good one has ever done in the world, in the past, for countless others is simply forgotten bc you won’t bend.
A shift like this is always hard. I just have to congratulate you for how well and professionally you handled the situation. You are clearly good at what you do and you have the integrity to get through the toughest situations without leaving dead bodies in your path.
I am looking forward to seeing what else you will accomplish. Disaffected has become my island that I escape to from the daily insanity I am encountering. I like that you are calling things out the way they present themselves to you. If women did this to you, it needs to be said. I am done protecting groups of people who see their victimhood status as a reason to hurt or feel that their existence grants them a morale superiority complex. It is a disorder. I wish you the best. And I will stay a dedicated supporter. Congrats again!
Josh! I am so saddened and troubled to hear this. It's wrong, it's ugly, it's evil, and I could see the emotion in your face, hear it in your voice when you made the announcement as you closed out last Sunday's Disaffected. But let's take stock of all the GOOD, shall we?
1. You are scary articulate! Like: scary. You make Julius Caesar seems like a pizza from Little Caesar's.
2. You are extremely charismatic! If you were a D&D character, your CHR stat would be 73 (that's very good).
3. Disaffected is absolutely brilliant. You and Kevin bring something to the world that people can't get ANYWHERE else.
I know it's scary now, Josh (actually, I don't know, I assume it is) – but I have 100% confidence that Disaffected is going to take off like a big, gigantic, sparkly, gay rocket of unwoke glory. You're going to rich and famous, Josh! And then – and THEN – you know what you're going to tell me? You going to tell me my favorite thing to hear. You're going to say "Arvid, you were right."
I was considering coming up to Burlington but it's like 3 hours away and I'm a family man, all I do all day is chop fruit (literal fruit, don't worry) for my children that they never eat, but maybe next time I'll make the trip.
You, Aaron, and everyone who protested that goddam Fire Truck Pull for Sexually Mutilating Children event inspired me, and I have a funny feeling I'm not the only one. I sing your praises to anyone who will listen (and anyone who won't).
