As someone that went through a really bad stretch (about 5 years) I realize that sometimes bad things happen to good people and bad things out of their control. I don't have an answer to why. It did make me question everything. It definitely woke (and not that kind of woke) me up to what we're told isn't always valid. Also, government is designed for meager handouts, not hand ups to people trying to come out of a bad situation.

I can't imagine you (Josh) trying to explain the horrible to a person when no explanation might seem to really exist.

To "be religious" is to be in, and stay with, the struggle, even (and especially) when you strongly suspect there is no point. Peace, Brother.

Relate to this 💯! God has never been the only force at play in the world. There is a massive imbalance in favor of evil. So no, Gods not executing this evil or deception.

Josh you’ve said in the past that “they only do what they do because nobody’s stopping them” you nailed it.

I had just enough of a sense of the quality of that song to realize that my tone deafness is preventing me from fully appreciating something great.

On the religious issue, Jesus despised the religious Pharisees because they were hypocrites. They were all about form over substance.

Christianity is technically a religion, but many Christians balk at the idea of it being a religion at all. And that is because God is all about relationship. Throughout the Bible, you can see God trying to help his people back toward a right relationship with Him.

I was raised very religious but had to renounce all religions - the usual ones as well as secular, political, and new age - in order to be able to be ‘born again’ and find a form of faith in Jesus that works for me. It’s still not coming easily to me and I have a hard time praying sometimes. I feel a new hope.

But try as I might, I just don’t like that Madonna song, even after reading the sometimes gushing YT comments. My deep meaningful Madonna song is ‘Live to Tell’.

A really beautiful song, like so much of what she's done.

Musically speaking, the song is a masterpiece. If it elicits this from you, Josh:

"I can’t honestly say I believe in God, but I can’t honestly say I don’t. I want to."

This is pure God, doing what He does best: using surprising venues to touch those who need to feel the gentle pressure of His sovereign hand. Stay open, friend... ears, eyes and mind. When you feel most loved... most protected... that is Him. 🌹

I've never heard her sing in this register, and I like it. Nice and mellow.

Like several here, I've never heard this song before you introduced it to us. This is the Madonna music that I like...I never much got into her more mainstream, radio play stuff, but somehow discovered Music and Confessions on a Dance Floor (both of which I listened to in secret...lol). Thanks for sharing.

Josh, thanks for what you do, taking slings and arrows and such. It's great the community that you and Kevin have built up here. I hope you're proud of yourself! Blessings...

Something that really helped to clarify my conception of God, what God is and what God isn't, was a book called "Journey to Reality" by Zachary Porcu. It offers some really profound insights for such a short read. I also loved that it was written for those without much of a religious background or mindset.
