The richest popular artist. She didn’t earn it… her family is Simon and Shuster. For years, studios declined to give her a recording contract because she was ridiculously affluent.
Perhaps at the time. Today Simon & Shuster has revenues that approximate Taylor Swift's Eras tour. At 1600 employees it's similar in size to the Taylor organization.
Your grace today in your remembrances touched my heart and because you had them, made tears of happiness blur my vision. Merry Christmas, Josh, and thank you for the Carly Simon song. I love it, and especially that version.
This is my favorite Song Artist and song.. I love your column and look forward to reading it.. Thank you so much and have a happy Christmas and New Year
As soon as I saw the wooden spoon...they do break though. My mother played golf and had a very strong swing...Merry Christmas Josh. I'm very glad that you and your sister didn't break. Wishing you every last drop of season's Joy!
It’s precisely the imperfections of objects that make them unique, special, memorable. We have a sterling family baby cup that’s been banged around by generations of toddlers. I wouldn’t trade it for all the jewelry in a David Yurman. Family objects carry water, hold the weight of memories good and bad, and anchor us to the places that shaped who we are ~ imperfections happily included.
If you haven’t read BOYS IN THE TREES by Carly Simon, I think you should. You’d like it. It’s precisely her childhood of walking barefoot on pebbles that shaped her music and life.
Merry Christmas! I’m glad this time around that your memories were a balance of the magic and struggle that have made you YOU.
Merry Christmas, Josh! You cheered me during a gray Christmas dusk.
Of all the instruments of corporal punishment my dad used--bare hand, wood paddle, belt, tree switch, yard stick, etc.--my favorite was wooden coat hangers because they always busted after three or four whacks, and he'd quit. Happy childhood memories!
I still have vivid memories of my parents’ wooden spoon. They once said in my hearing that they used it to inflict maximum pain with minimum inspectable damage. When my father left welts (and did not use the spoon), my mother warned him not to leave evidence of what they were doing.
Merry Christmas Josh!
Merry Christmas, Josh. 🎄
But I must call you out on your music again. Carly Simon, really?

Good point. I meant at that time.

Your sister sounds like a gem. Based on other posts, she’s funny, too.
Merry Christmas to both of you, from all of us.
