I used to be one of those snobby foodists. I stopped. There is too much joy lost when you restrict what you eat. Of course you should not eat twinkies and hot dog all day, but that is not fun eating for me anyways. I never had a twinkie in my life, but what I did have was cheap but delicious foods that make the stomach feel warm and cared for. I love mashed potatoes with lots of real butter. I love cheesy noodles (aka Mac & Cheese) with a thick creamy cheese sauce. I love slow cooked meats and stews. I love good old fashioned eggs and bacon. And ... the last time I went on a trip up north. Me and my friends all ordered the Chicken Fingers at a bar / restaurant. Because: they sounded the most delicious.
Buy what you need. Freeze what you can. Enjoy while it lasts.
I'm from Texas. I don't think I need to say anything about the chicken fried steak and gravy topic - it should be abundantly obvious what side of the "everything's bigger in Texas" plate I come down on. 😉
Northerners don't generally know what is, nor have an appreciation for, fried okra, either. 🙃
I stop by the Risky's drive-thru in north Fort Worth about once a month and get us a plate for lunch. I got an order of the fried okra one day, and it was as full as the regular plates! I'm a Tennessee girl, and while it's popular there, I never acquired the taste. I will, however, eat my weight in chicken fried steak and gravy. (I have no idea how I don't weigh 500 pounds, lol)
Did anyone go to the southerndiscourse.com website? Omg. Don't do it. It's too early in the day to be accosted by the visual esthetics of such gastronomic amazingness.
Ugh. Now I'm going to have to prepare something other than a sandwich for lunch.
Mmmmmmmmm.
They look disgusting. But then I’m a northerner and feel the same way about iced sweet tea.
Perhaps you can have them shipped to you like I have salmon sent from Alaska.

Love my okra!
As a side note...

Dude. That sucks. We have like four different brands of them here and you can get them hot and fresh at Dairy Queen all day.
