I hear you on this. When Substack released Chat, each content creator had to enable it manually. Why couldn’t Notes be the same way?
The notifications- most of which appear to be for items coming from people or posts I don’t follow or have participated in fill the app’s notifications.
The iOS App has been extremely sluggish for me for months to the point where I just use the website.
The Vulture Capital is probably running out so they’re going to have to figure out how to generate cash flow from sources other than taking cuts from paid subscriptions.
My first impression take of all of this is that its more behavioral steering. ( Telegram didn’t work . Wechat didn’t really cut the mustard. There are more examples. Lots of failed attempts to congregate demographics in siloed spaces ) Regardless, we are each self selecting for those who would steer us at this point. Essentially making their jobs even easier for them. I’m headed towards serious disinterest in all outlets at this point. Perhaps THAT is the point. To kill all communication.
I've found turning notifications off for the Substack app works for me. That may be a function of using Apple, or just being technically incompetent (I have everything turned off by default, I think).
Right. This is not a phone issue. Unlike most others, I rarely interact with forums like this on my phone.
What is needed is not an Apple/Android/App specific user configuration. What is needed is for a Substack account, specifically, to turn off these notifications *at the account level*.
I thought it was just me! I don't use the app and have notifications turned off, but then bam! I was hit with all these "notes" in my email. My first thought was, "Damn, something else I have to wade through that I don't want. How do I turn this crap off?"
I see a gear icon in the notification section, and when you click on that there is an option to toggle off the option "Notify me when a writer I subscribe to posts a note." Of course it should have been off in default and we should have had to toggle it on to use it if we wished.
I read somewhere we would see a notification for each "first note" by an author, but I assume not the rest of their notes in the future. I'm not sure how that works in combination with the toggle switch or if I was misunderstanding something.
Will this attract just flies as more shit is encouraged by the Twitter feature? People found value in Substack content because it was valuable and not devalued by the mob
Can anyone tell me how to find Disaffected on Discord please? I’ve set up a Discord account but apparently need a code to find Disaffected there. Apologies, I know this is not relevant to this post but don’t know where else to ask.
Hi jenny. I can send you a direct link to get into our discord, but I need you to email me privately to receive that. Please send to us@disaffected.fm.
Please pay careful attention to that email address, noticing that the ending is not the .com that you are expecting. I only say that because it's a common mistake that people make.

They consciously chose to force participation.
I now understand the character and future choices of Substack executives. I misunderstood it before. It's not the good character I thought it was.

Notifications are disabled on my end too.

I thought I was a loser because everyone who WAS anyone had up and published their first substack note.
I feel shamed.
I really don’t understand how Notes works so not a snarky question. Do you have to use Notes?
Well that sucks. I love Substack, and I only just discovered it in the past few month because of the trans crap. Why do platforms do shit like this?
