Hi everyone, Posting has been slow as I’ve been out of town helping family with a medical emergency. In other news, Twitter has banned Disaffected’s account again. No reason given. No specific action cited. Just “you broke our rules.” That’s it for us and Twitter. It is an abusive, Kafka-esque platform. It is pure Cluster B. We’re not going to cooperate with a digital abuser anymore. We’re not going to try to build an audience for the show just to have it all taken away (with no way to tell fans or followers) for the third time.
I'm a social media manager, and I have a few pieces of advice to grow.
Given that you already do a well-produced show, I would focus on snappy 30-60s clips on TikTok, Instagram Reels, or YouTube Shorts. Those are the quickest ways to grow a channel. I find that Instagram is less censorious than TikTok (shockingly), but YouTube Shorts could be easy since you're already putting in the effort there. If you put "#shorts" in the title of your YouTube video, Youtube will automatically classify it as a Short.
Also, use the YouTube community tab - Post your Substack links there and you'll definitely get subscribers who will cross over to this platform (and potentially pay). I found this worked well for an unwoke client I work with. Also, you'll probably want people to cross over to Substack as much as possible in case YouTube takes your channel.

It really is Kafka-esque. Maddening. Also brings Escher-type staircases to mind. We keep on running up, down, and around, growing increasingly fatigued, frustrated, and ineffective. Glorified hamster wheel. Hope we can all continue to connect and organize as a community outside of these contexts.

I've wanted to subscribe for months. last night, I was listening to you while driving through my neighborhood, and I had this deep feeling of nostalgia. it came from hearing you speak the way that people used to speak. it was like finding shoreline. thank you for your boldness. I'm daring twitter to kick me off daily. it's a slow drip of poison to the psyche anyway. I wish we had another place, our place, like a local bar, where we could hang out and offer grace, you know, behave like decent humans and not feel like we're halfway through a really bad date, and we know where this is heading so let's just get on with the hard part. if you ever need a cat sitter, call me.

And I just "caught up" on your sister's harrowing ordeal and am truly sorry for what she went through. She has so much to overcome. May she find the strength to heal and recover. I have a sister whom I dearly love, and I know how worried and heart sick I would be if I were in your shoes. Blessings to both of you as you battle this latest nightmare.
So here I am. Keep going. I fully believe in you and your mission. I think this is important work and I do my share by supporting you as much as I can. If there is anything else you need, you know where to find me. Never feel shy to ask for help, that is what my therapist taught me. Plus the strength in saying and hearing the word “No” as a complete sentence.
