I donated for the privilege of providing a response. I suspect he should pay the fine and pick another battle. I could be wrong, but I'm not uninformed. I am a lawyer, but I am not authorized to practice law in Vermont, and I am not giving legal advice. I am expressing a general personal opinion.
There is no place in the United States that doesn't engage in viewpoint discrimination vis a vis selective enforcement of laws. That's been true for at least 35 years. Some people have to follow the rules, and others do not. If there is a violation of an ordinance for defacing public property, I don't think there is much of a defense to say that the ordinance is not enforced against other violators. Of course there are the free speech implications, but I hope his counsel is being pragmatic about how this will play out. I hope I'm wrong, but I suspect I am not. If you are soliciting donations, I trust you will keep us informed about how this plays out, whether for better or worse. I'll be pleased to say my prediction was wrong. Nothing would make me happier.
Love the disclaimer! Please apply it, mutatis mutandi, to my opinion as well.
I agree with Jim’s assessment, and if the world were normal, this would be a perfect opportunity to go to the press. Alas, the world is not normal, and the press would disagree vehemently with his expression and make things much worse.
I hope that one day, we’ll wake up from this fever pitch of madness, but I know that’s unlikely.
We think there's a good case about viewpoint discrimination, but we also know how the courts are. Someone needs to challenge this, and it's been boiling for years.
A great way to raise money would be to print and sell a bunch of those stickers. I’m sure many people, myself included, would like to have some to put up around our own cities.
Placing bills in public spaces has been been an American tradition since before were a nation. Opposition from our overlords is another equally long tradition. Resistance is called for, though the cost of the fight must be understood. Particularly sad the overlords have come to such power in the once free New England states. The voters apparently wish to be led.
Just donated! Will donate more next week when able.
Thank you so much, Samantha.
It’s my honor to help such a man, Josh.

Donated. And as I also put up these same stickers all over my town and have run out, I'd love to buy more.
Thank you so much, Cindy.
