Oh, my heart.

My grandmother used to turn on the Lawrence Welk Show when I stayed overnight. She would make us rice pudding and light the blue fairy oil lamps.

The Lawrence Welk Show was a weekly must see at my grandparents house, and The Lennon Sisters were a favorite. Mostly out of jealousy, I'm chagrined to admit, my twin sister and I didn't share our grandparent's enthusiasm, and we also found them to be just a little too sugary sweet for our taste. I suspect we also felt we compared unfavorably, hence the jealousy. But, no doubt about it, their harmonizing was impeccable.

That's lovely. I have fond memories of that show as a child. Of course I got to an age where it became ridiculous and worthy of mockery. But in middle age in 2024 I am nostalgic for that simplicity and innocence.

That sibling harmony has something special. The Everly Brothers had it. The Avett Brothers have it. It is nice that it is still common nowadays.

The Andrews Sisters and the Carter Family as well. (The second generation, that is -- in the first Carter iteration, the closest family relationship was first cousin.)

That brings back memories of going to my grandma's house on Sundays when I was very young.

I'm 63 and we watched the Lawrence Welk show at my house and my grandparents nearby watched it also. I think my parents were even able to see it live in person in the LA area because my grandma had a program from the live show! Bobby Burgess (dancer) was on the original Mickey Mouse Club show so younger kids knew him from that. I think we watched it from the early 1960s through the early 970s. Liked Jo Ann Castle on piano (In 1970 I started piano lessons on a 1898 Coop & Sons piano built in Pasadena, CA). I also enjoyed Liberace TV specials and his appearances on various shows. At one time Liberace and Lawrence Welk had the same manager, Seymour Heller. I just saw that Jo Ann Castle is still around, but wow she had more than her share of issues and problems. http://www.joanncastle.com/

Back to a time when legitimate singing talent was how you made it big. Not Autotune, not smoke and mirrors, not being a flavor of the month through insane marketing strategies. Just sheer, simple talent. Sigh.
