Is it appropriate to link the Ron Burgundy version? Great job by the writers to work it in.

I love your vintage nostalgic descriptions, sounds so cozy, fluffy, and chic.

Palestrina would approve of the harmonies.

I totally agree with you about our nervous systems being tuned to such ratios.

I get just as excited when someone else knows what I mean.

Temperament matters. A perfect fifth on a piano is not a perfect fifth.

I learned a bit about Well Temperament and Just Temperament when I was researching my article on Temperance. One ear-opener for me was a pianist who played Chopin's Funeral March in 12-TET and Well Temperament. The Well-Tempered piano had a much moodier and more interesting sound that made the 12-TET version look almost pale and washed out by comparison.

I'm old enough to remember watching the Starland Vocal Band's brief variety show, though I don't remember anything about the guests. They had amazing vocal harmonies, and it's a pity they were never able to rise above being one-hit wonders.

When I was a kid, I thought it was about having a picnic and a fireworks show. Not kidding. LOL

Heard it on the oldies radio station a few years ago, and it hit me... "Oh, my! It's a dirty song! And I love it!" (Think Lorelai Gilmore saying "dirty". Heh.)

That's the thing. In those days, songwriters couldn't just come right out and say what they meant, usually, so they had to be a lot more creative. Neil Diamond is another one who wrote some absolutely beautiful lyrics to describe some pretty specifically sensual stuff. "Play Me", for one example. "The Grass Won't Pay No Mind" for another. "Cherry, Cherry". (Seriously love Neil Diamond, and grew up hearing the "Hot August Night" album a *lot*. I still can't sit still during the opening drums as the "Prologue" switches to Neil entering the stage on that one.)

One of my favorite songs in 3rd grade!

I absolutely loved this song when it came out (a high school Summer) and it’s definitively exquisite harmonies... they were a local group to my area (DC), so it was a thrill when they hit with this song. Fond memories and easy on the ears...

Thanks for sharing!

The first I ever heard of them was Homer Simpson getting a tattoo of them on his arm. "Starland Vocal Band? They suck!"
