Scene: A family restaurant with ordinary food cooked well, at reasonable prices.
Hostess: Good evening. Two tonight? Let me show you to your booth.
Hostess: [gestures to have a seat on velvet banquette]
Margaret: Might have known it would be red.
Hostess: OK, enjoy your dinner!
Waitress: Hi, my name's Sky-Leah and I'll be taking care of you this evening! If there's anything you need, it is my goal to provide you with a superior experience?
Can I start you off with something to drink?
Carrie White: I'll have a whisk---
Margaret: [Dagger look at Carrie]
Carrie White: Milk please.
Margaret: They're all gonna laugh at you.
Waitress: Pardon?
Margaret: They're all gonna laugh at you!
Waitress: Let me just. .um. . get those.
~15 minutes later~
Waitress: OK, I hope you're hungry! Now, liver and onions here. . .
Margaret: The devil has come home.
Waitress: I'm sorry ma'am?
Margaret: Sin never dies.
Waitress: And fun-shaped fish sticks for you!
Carrie: Fish sticks? You shoulda told me, Mama.
Waitress: Can I get you anything else right now?
Margaret: Eve was weak.
Waitress: Excuse me?
Margaret. Eve was weak. Eve was weak. Say it, woman!
Waitress: Uh. . .Eve was weak?
Margaret: And god loosed the raven on the world and. .
Waitress: [Shelley Duvall voice] I'm gonna go now.
[OIL DISSOLVE AND HARP GLISSANDO]
Waitress: Can I offer you some dessert this evening?
Carrie: Yes please, I’ll have the sinfully choc—
Margaret: [raises arm under cloak and puts out her hand] We’ll pray.
Waitress: I’ll just give you a few minutes then.
Carrie: Mama, I *want* dessert.
Margaret: Oh lord! Help this sinning woman see the sin of her days and ways!
Carrie: I didn’t sin, Mama. That’s just the name of the cake. You *know* that.
Margaret: Maybe she committed the sin of gluttonous thoughts. She may have been tempted by the anti-Christ.
Carrie: [Rolls eyes] It’s not sin Mama, it’s cake. Every restaurant has it.
[Awkward silence]
Margaret: I saw him looking down at me that way.
Carrie: Jesus fucking Christ. . .
[FADE TO BLACK]
Ha ha - at first I thought you were relating a recent dinner out with friends, and then ....💡these are the characters in the Steven King novel Carrie. Yep, been a long time since I read it, or saw the movie, but you landed how a restaurant scene would go with Mama and Carrie.
